A Gentler Two-Pass Cull

Separate the emotional first reaction from the careful technical decision and make choosing less exhausting.

Contact sheet and two selected landscape prints on a calm editing table

Applies to: Written for Fujifilm photographers. Camera menu names, film simulations and available settings vary by model and firmware.

Pass one: respond quickly

Move through the set at a comfortable pace and mark images that make you pause. Do not zoom in and do not try to explain the reaction yet.

Pass two: look with care

Review only the marked frames for focus, gesture, timing and visual distractions. The second pass is shorter because you have already reduced the decision set.

Choose for a purpose

Make a final selection for a small story, a share or a print. A set with a purpose is easier to finish than an indefinite collection of technically acceptable frames.
